Visiting the European Parliament is one of the best free experiences in Brussels, complete with airport-style security and high-tech visitor spaces. It’s an easy, inspiring stop that gives you a whole new perspective on how 24 languages and 27 countries operate together 📍🇪🇺
🇪🇺 We spent the morning stepping inside the European Quarter, standing above the iconic Hemicycle chamber, and discovering how 27 countries come together under one roof 🏛️✨
We took the bus out of the historic center and straight into the sleek, high-tech European Quarter, where glass towers and giant flag displays replace medieval cobblestones 🚶♀️🇪🇺. Passing through airport-style security, we grabbed our personal handheld media guides and walked right into the gallery of the Hemicycle—the massive semi-circular debating chamber where hundreds of MEPs gather to vote on European laws. Standing high up in the gallery, watching the sea of desks and translation booths light up, you really get a sense of just how vast and interconnected Europe is 🎧🏛️. Visiting the Parliament and the interactive Parlamentarium visitor center won't cost you a single Euro. The only non-negotiable? You must bring a valid physical passport or national ID card to get past security—photos on your phone or driver's licenses will get turned away at the door! Look up at those glass booths surrounding the top of the chamber—translators sit inside, working live in all 24 official EU languages simultaneously. While the committee work and smaller meetings happen here in Brussels, the entire Parliament packs up once a month and travels down to Strasbourg, France, for official four-day voting sessions—a famous tradition that requires shipping thousands of trunks of paperwork back and forth!
