You know those travel moments where you’re supposed to be heading straight home, but as the train slows down, you look out the window and think, "No way can we pass this up"? That was us on the way back from The Hague. 🙈

We had zero plans, no map pulled up. But the second you step out of the Delft train station, you’re greeted by the main canal. You cross the water, take about twenty steps, and BAM—you are instantly dropped right into the historic heart of the city!

Delft is pure storybook energy. Quiet canals lined with historic brick homes, tiny stone bridges, and cozy sidewalk cafes where people are just slow-living and watching the world float by. We spent 3 blissful hours just aimlessly wandering, taking in the fairytale vibes. 🫖💙

📍 Quick 2-Hour Self-Guided Walking Loop

If you’re hopping off the train for a quick wander like we did, here is the exact, easy loop to take so you don’t miss a thing: the ⛪ Leaning Towers & Historic Squares.

Oude Delft Canal & The Leaning Tower ⛪

As you cross from the station, start walking along Oude Delft (the city’s oldest canal). Keep an eye out for the Oude Kerk (Old Church). Fun fact: if you look closely at the Oude Kerk (Old Church) down the canal, the tower is visibly leaning! 🏗️ It sits right on the edge of a canal and has been slowly tilting for centuries. Honestly, watching it stand tall despite the slant gives the whole town so much personality.🏗️

Museum Prinsenhof & Royal History 🏰 Tucked-away courtyard elegance. Jus

t past the Old Church sits the Prinsenhof. This former convent is where William of Orange (the founding father of the Netherlands) lived—and was assassinated in 1584. The courtyard garden is super peaceful for a quick breather. 🌿

The Markt (Main Square), Town Hall & Nieuwe Kerk 🏛️ The grand finale. Cut through the side lanes to hit the Markt, one of the grandest city squares in the Netherlands. On one end stands the ornate Renaissance Town Hall, and directly opposite is the towering Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Grab a bench or a table at a terrace cafe, order a warm treat, and just people-watch! ☕🧇

Voldersgracht & Delftware Boutiques 🛍️ Charming side streets & artisan shops. Loop back along Voldersgracht, a narrow canal parallel to the main square. This street is packed with indie shops, local bakeries, and endless stores with iconic blue-and-white Delftware ceramics. 💙

Pro Tip: Don't stress about hitting every museum! The real magic of Delft is just losing yourself in the side alleys, crossing the tiny bridges, and watching the reflection of historic gables in the canals as the sun starts to set. 🌆✨
